Well, Star Wars' main goal is to sell toys to kids so its philosophy has to be very black and white -- and thus quite dumb and one-dimensional to every adult. Grey Jedi are too complex a topic for kids because they use both light and dark side techniques. And so the idea was never pursued further I guess.

I've not seen the theory elsewhere online, but I took the fact of Rey burying the last jedi Sabres and then cracking out the yellow one was basically the balance of the force. She clearly has sith powers but morally aligns closer to the light so she IS the balance to the force everyones been working towards, with the yellow sabre being the representation as its neither the red dark or the blue light, it's the other primary colour, so shes now something else, the force is now something else. Sorry, that wasnt very eloquent and I hope it made sense..

Grey Jedi is not someone who use both dark and light. Using light and dark never works. Grey Jedi is someone who accepts that there is strength in emotions. They can draw strength from positive emotions just like Sith negative. Jedi of old order are in fact true grey jedi, they reject both positive and negative emotions, they preach no emotion and try to be like robots but in reality they fail miserably at it in nearly all cases.

The problem is, to use the dark side you must tap into negative emotions and sometimes surrender to them to gain true power. Now, you can still use that for good, but that doesn't happen often.
